Extended Enterprise Processes: Companies have come to realize that automating business processes within the confines of applications is not sufficient. Linking pieces of processes through Internet-based connections for e-business purposes does not yield the necessary process control. Business rules trapped in automated processes with no ability to arbitrate or adjust them dynamically are inadequate and limiting. Business Rules Rule: Business rules are the essential details of every process and, in fact, the business itself. They are often embodied in the experience of veteran employees, legacy application code, and procedural manuals that are changed with mere memorandums. These business rules govern how transactions occur, how products are priced, how customers are treated, how orders are processed, how invoices are paid, how partner and suppliers participate in corporate processes and, generally how business processes function.
